We believe this has not been done before and are extremely excited in hopes that we can really increase awareness and understanding of this insidious abuse.

On 15th June, Matthew Taylor from KIS Academy will be giving a talk as part of Abuse Awareness day. Admission is FREE and it is aimed at relatives of those in care, and even for people in care themselves. Find out what is defined as 'abuse' and what isn't. Mr. Taylor has years experience in the care industry as a care giver and as a professional trainer. He will explain what to look for when selecting a care home. He will explain in simple terms how to detect abuse, what the law says, and what you can do to protect your loved one.
This talk is FREE and ALL ARE WELCOMED. If you have a relative in care you are most welcome to bring them. As Mr Taylor says: "The best way to stamp out abuse is to train those receiving the care. They are truly the eyes and ears that will ensure the highest standards of care are met." Health care professionals will find this informative and useful as well. The talk will be held at Hollyoak Veterinary Surgery, St Georges Way, Impington on 15 June beginning at 8:00 PM.

International Forum on Sexual safety of Older Women - A Human Rights Approach -
Sponsored by:
International federation on ageing and Ryerson University
Venue: To be Advised
Toronto, Canada
Wednesday, 15 June 2011
From 8am to 7:30pm
Toronto will be giving focus to an under-reported, silent and insidious form of abuse - the sexual abuse of older women. Historically, older people have never been considered potential or actual targets of sexual assault and as a result have been under-identified and under-served as victims. With the insufficient knowledge and awareness of this form of elder abuse, the most effective strategy to serve older victims of sexual assault is to bring together professionals in victim s services and in the ageing fields to shed light on this issue.
Hosted by the International Federation on Ageing and Ryerson University, in Collaboration with the Ontario Seniors Secretariat, this one day interactive International Forum is an opportunity for the governments of Canada, service providers, practitioners, professionals and those dealing in elder protection to hear from a number of internationally respected experts in the field.
Registration is yet to be finalized but will be no greater that $50 for full participation

Elder Abuse and Guardianship Victims Listening Session Sponsored by: National Organization to End Guardianship Abuse (NOTEGA) Elder Abuse and Guardianship Victims Taskforce for Change
Venue: Washington, DC - On Capitol Hill Rayburn Building
Tuesday, June 14th & Wednesday, June 15th 2011
From 12 noon to 2 pm
The Elder Abuse and Guardianship Victim's Taskforce for Change is made up of advocates, victims and family members of elderly and disabled victims who have been declared incapacitated. They have come together to create a voice for these silent victims of abuse and financial exploitation. In recognition of International Elder Abuse Awareness Day, approximately 35 citizens from 15 states are traveling to Capitol Hill where they will share the stories of their incapacitated elderly or disabled loved ones who have been silent victims of abuse and exploitation. They will each talk about their experience in their state and how it impacted their own lives and the lives of their families.
The goal of the taskforce is to be a voice for those who have no voice, sharing their stories with each other, with agencies and with leaders on the Hill who have the power to make a difference and to bring an end to this travesty. The taskforce will deliver a petition signed by over 1200 people asking for national reform, will meet with legislators and will convene a session to craft recommendations for change to end elder and guardianship abuse.
This event is not accepting anymore people to present but is open to those interested in learning more about the problems of elder abuse and financial exploitation of incapacitated elderly and disabled adults.
